Verdict
This edition of the Indian Derby is one of the best ever with almost all the derby winners in the fray. All eyes would be focused on the champion colt, SANTISSIMO (10), and the champion filly, PSYCHIC STAR (13), and the fact they both hail from the most powerful yard in the country will have everyone guessing as to who among the two could turn out to be the ultimate champion of the current classic crop. But then, things have quite often gone awry, and some unexpected results have been thrown in the past. The ones that could prove it true could well be the Bangalore winter derby winner, RANQUELINO (9), who was dispatched to this centre soon after winning the derby last week, and, if he has taken the arduous journey well, he could reign supreme in the most coveted event of this country; and he is followed by the Golconda derby winner, DUKE OF TUSCANY (4), whose second dam is none other than the mighty Jacqueline, who won four Indian classics, including this event, and, if her genes were to be dominant in him, he would beat this field with ease. Last but not least are the chances of GOLDEN THUNDER (5), who suffered a setback in the Bangalore summer derby but looks to have recovered well, going by his facile win last time out this term. All in all, this edition of the Indian Derby will surely be etched forever in the memories of all the racing aficionados.
