This is not an appetising choice. The standout form was registered by PLUS POINT but that was on the Flat and she ended up 8l behind Keep On Cobbling at Doncaster one month ago when tried over hurdles. Some notably tentative jumping played a big part in that defeat, however, and a chance is taken that improvement in that area will enable her to turn the tables today. She's also from an in-form stable. They may be the top two options but Pomeriggio and La Cantate are also in the mix, and El Fabienne would be if her recent results could be forgiven.[Richard Austen]

Good cases can be made for a few of these but top of the list is course winner MARTALMIX'JAC (nap), who is perhaps fortunate to have escaped a nudge up the weights for his close second over 3m in February and looks interesting on his first attempt at a marathon trip. Groom De Cotte, Samourai One, Pottlerath and Getthepot are others to consider but class-dropper Grillon De Monty hinted at a possible return to form on his latest outing and may provide the main threat to the selection.[Chris Wilson]

He was out of form when we last saw him but R BERNARD did well after joining Mel Rowley last spring and, from a workable mark, is taken to win this race for the second year running. Quite The Getaway ran quite well over 2m6f here last month and is second choice. Blackacre can feature if he handles the ground and handicap debutant High Joker is very unexposed.[Chris Wilson]

Getting hampered at the first fence probably ensured that ALLMANKIND had no chance of justifying his relatively prominent position in the betting (20-1) at the Cheltenham Festival and he was pulled up after a circuit. This race, however, should play vastly more to his strengths. Bardenstown Lad was 66-1 in the Cheltenham race and weakened right out of it but he too has serious claims today. However, Empire De Maulde may prove the chief threat to the selection, having gone agonisingly close at Newbury 23 days ago.[Richard Austen]
