Several significant candidates have not run this season and the market moves need a close check. On recent evidence it's YOKOHAMA who gets the vote, on the strength of his second at Newbury following the gelding operation. Distinction also ran well recently but may now be suited by ground softer than good. Into Battle is a tentative second best but several need to be considered.[Richard Austen]

Half-brother to the very classy Subjectivist and Sir Ron Priestley, suggesting stamina tests; made all for the breakthrough in a five-runner handicap at Carlisle (1m3f, good) last July but tailed off when favourite at Ascot (1m4f, good to firm) 15 days later; not seen since and had wind surgery in November; could still have potential.
Made all in novice at Epsom (good) last April and better form in some of his handicaps afterwards; not seen since a lesser show on heavy ground in September; stays 1m3f; good shout on best form.
Down the field in two AW starts for new yard this year but he's 0-4 in that sphere compared to a healthy 3-6 on turf, the wins all in 1m2f handicaps for Eve Johnson Houghton; withdrawn when ground was officially good at Ripon recently; needs a market check.
His four wins have come in pairs, during August 2022 and May last year; went off the boil last autumn and needs to improve his first-time-out record but he has slipped somewhat in the weights and 5lb claimer is recruited.
Only 1lb higher than when successful over 1m2f at Ripon (good to firm) last August, his only British win; ran respectably in December when last seen and worth a second look.
Had 1m2f/1m3f wins on good ground last May/June and he's now back to his last winning mark, having been more miss than hit afterwards; off since last September and needed his first run last term.
Hasn't won since his debut (AW in 2023); gelded in March and close second of 14 at Newbury (1m2f, good; 3lb higher today) two weeks ago was easily his best turf result, putting him back on the right tracks.
Won off 4lb lower at Leicester (1m2f, good to soft) last July, her sole win from 11 races; made a respectable start to this season one month ago and has each-way claims for her in-form stable.
Three wins at about 1m in a productive spell on good to soft/soft last summer and he was a close third of 18 when returned to turf at Doncaster (1m2f, good to soft) four weeks ago; player on that but there is a question over whether good ground is any longer ideal.
