The well-bred DETAIN could be set for a fine season and he impressed on the Kempton Polytrack last October. He is the selection ahead of Luther, who was a Listed winner at Haydock in September and had excuses in the Royal Lodge later that month. Won 7f novice races at Kempton (Polytrack) last August/October on his first two starts, impressively on the second occasion; soundly beaten sixth of eight in Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster (1m, soft) next time but drops back in grade on reappearance and retains considerable potential for his top yard.
After finishing fifth of seven in a Group 3 at Sandown he made it 2-4 when winning Kempton novice (7f, Polytrack) in October; no match for the Godolphin favourite in Kempton conditions race (1m) in February and improvement is needed, but he could have more left in the tank; yard won this last year.
Listed runner-up at Salisbury (1m) last August on second start, behind subsequent Grade 1 winner, then won Listed race at Haydock (1m); soft ground and the undulations may not have suited at Newmarket in the Royal Lodge; one of the leading form contenders on his reappearance and AW debut.
Posted a win (at Southwell) and a near-miss (over this C&D) from his first two starts; then gelded and won by 5l at 1-4 over C&D in February; this is much tougher but he's a likeable prospect who could hold his own.
Won in good style at Kempton (1m, Polytrack) in January on second start then fourth of six there (1m) in February, when just over 1l behind runner-up Hott Shott; still early days but he has work to do.
Down the field in Group races last autumn on final two starts; however, before those he looked promising when runner-up in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood (7f) on his second outing, and it's possible a break will have helped; not ruled out.
Four wins during his progressive juvenile campaign, including on Polytrack and in a Listed race in October; below best in Qatar in February but he's a player if tapping back into his 2yo promise.
